Interview at Petronas
For the benefit of all reader I would like to share my interview experience in Petronas end of last year. I dropped my cv at petronas booth in July 2008 at Jobstreet Career Fair in MidValley. I felt so lucky because being shortlisted for the interview. When I reach the HR Department at Tower 1, KLCC I was greeted by the HR rep and given an application form to fill up. There are already 4 candidates waiting for the interview that day and I am not sure whether this is for the same position or not.
Later I was given a study case on “pollution” to read and prepare for 30 minutes and to be discussed during the interview. I believe the other 4 candidates also had the same article but different topic. The topic is got nothing to do with our studies it’s just a general knowledge where in the piece of paper, there is a guide on what to focus, what are the key elements etc.
The Interview day
I started the first 5 minutes confidently, the topic are more about my self, my study, my experience etc. So all this I have prepared well in fact if they want me to talk more than 30 minutes also I willingly to do so.
Then they asked about the article topic, some that I can still remembered are :
- Can you summarize the article
- How to educate people on this environment issue
- Give short term and long term solution for this problem
The panel very professional and friendly but the session is very pressure and tough, eventhough the question look easy but the article itself very hard to understand especially those came from kampong like me ….
Role Play
The next stage is on role play. The gave a situation and role that I should play. My role is as a policeman and the case is on missing child. For this session my role never change but the role of panel will change from a missing mother child until to the reporter is I am not mistaken. From one role play to another will experience difficulty to handle the case and it becomes more complicated until the last role play.
The role play stop at Card 5 where I can’t actually proceed. I got stuck and blur…beyond my imagination. This really hard to think and understand.
After 2 weeks, I finally got the result and as expected the result is NO. Eventhough I didn’t get the job but at least I have the priceless experience and not all has the same opportunity.
